Etiquette

Having good manners is the same as being kind. To be respectful is to consider the perspectives and personal space of others kindly. Of course, we don’t have to be kind, but why would we not? People often think of the rules of politeness as political correctness gone mad. I disagree.

There are many ways we can disrespect others, and the most potent is by simply disregarding their needs by placing ourselves and our needs ahead of theirs. It usually isn’t hard to imagine what is the best way to behave toward and with others, or with their property, but I have been surprised that it does need to be pointed out to some who are caught up in their own worlds … too insensitive to think things through. I’m sure that there is no malicious intent in their behaviour, but a type of ignorance. This short handbook is written predominantly for my children, and you might disagree with some of my advice. That’s OK, as they say …you do you.
